Get ready…the Sheboygan Children’s Book Festival is almost here!

An entire FREE weekend

dedicated to the excitement & wonder

of children book authors, illustrators, and performers.

This year's theme is Dare to Discover, inviting story lovers from the youngest of audiences on up to explore natural, mythical, and magical fun found within books.

Stories are brought to life through interactive presentations geared towards children and their wild imaginations. It's the perfect chance to jump right into your favorite story, and dare to discover the secrets waiting in the pages.

Right now, I’m pretty sure my kiddo’s don’t even think about how stories are created, who writes them, or how their favorite characters are created. I can’t wait to introduce them to all the authors and illustrators featured at this year's festival.

Discovering that real people create the whimsical characters of their favorite adventures may help them tap into their own imaginations and realize that…..hey, maybe I can make my own stories, too!

My littles may be too young to read just yet, but they are the perfect age for exploring the magic found in books. The festival takes place in three venues – Mead Public Library, Bookworm Gardens, and John Michael Kohler Arts Center.

Kicking off the weekend, we’ll pull on our PJ’s and head to the Bedtime Concert Sing-a-long featuring music from Emily Arrow. And we can’t resist getting a high-five from Clifford the Big Red Dog!

Starting off the fun on Saturday, Toadies & Dinos & Bigfoot Oh My! With Jill Esbaum sounds right up my son’s alley, and I’m pretty sure we won’t be able to resist seeing children illustrators Duncan Tonatiuh and Joe Cepeda share their talent. Not to mention monkeying around with Curious George, and exploring the whimsical Bookworm Gardens with Wild Thing!

On Sunday, the stories are brought to life in a big way, with live theater performances! Waiting for Balloon brings the joy and wonder of interactive story play to life, and it’s geared for the littlest of littles (18 months – 5 years). Then, in the afternoon check out the reader's theater performance of The Frog Prince, a play by David Mamet. And round out the festival by a special FREE movie showing of Paddington at the Stefanie H. Weill Center.

This is just a short chapter of a huge novel of fun to be had! There’s so many more amazing authors to visit, illustrators to see, and excitement to experience all weekend long.
